Renovation Projects For a Commercial Space That Reduce Energy Costs

Nov 13, 2020

You may be considering renovating your commercial space in order to accommodate your growing company. That's great! Renovating has so many benefits for your company. It can inspire your employees to be more productive, make a better first impression on customers, and reduce your business' production cost.

In this post, you'll discover some ideas for renovation projects that will help reduce the energy cost of a commercial space. Remember reducing the energy cost of your commercial space will mean more money in the bank for you.

1. Set Up Glass Partition Walls

Adequate lighting is vital for a safe day to day operation in a commercial space. And it is great to know that there are simple and inexpensive ways to reduce lighting energy consumption and costs while maintaining adequate light levels in a commercial space.

Glass can generally be used to amplify light in a space and make the said space feel bigger. Glass partition walls allow for the seamless flow of light in a working area, which means less need for bulbs to lighten up the commercial space.

Setting up glass partition walls not only help to reduce the energy cost of adequately lighting up a commercial space but also helps to save cost when there is a need for the restructuring of the commercial space in a future time as they can be easily re-arranged by an in-house maintenance team to fit in into a new style you desire in a short period of time.

2. Use Tilt-up Panels

Tilt-up panels or tilt-up walls are made using concrete poured horizontally on a building's floor at the site and then tilted to a vertical position with a crane and braced into position until the remaining building structural components are secured.

Concrete panels form a tight building envelope, which prevents the leakage of heat from a building. This means a reduced cost of providing warmth in the building throughout the building's lifespan.

With tilt up panels now constructed with insulation to serve as better air barriers, this results in reduced gas bills as well as electricity bills while still enhancing the thermal properties of a building.

3. Pair Concrete Roof Tiles With Solar Panels

When it comes to reducing energy cost in a commercial space, one of the best ways to accomplish this is by going green (wind, solar, hydro, etc.) Solar energy is very popular and used by many buildings, and it has proven to save energy costs.

Most times, when trying to install solar panels, the question of what appropriate roofing material to complement these panels arises.

Concrete roof tiles are not just great when it comes to design and durability, they are also really great when combined with solar panels - as they are energy efficient and help in reducing energy cost. Concrete roof tiles possess reflective properties, which means they reflect sunlight and release heat instead of absorbing it. This means they can transfer this heat from the roof deck into the solar panels on them. More electrical power generated by the solar panels as a result of this ability of concrete roof tiles will result in reduced electricity costs.

4. Go For LEDs

LED lights consume less energy when compared alongside other types of bulbs. Apart from that, they give off less heat, which is beneficial during the summer months as less energy is needed to cool the building.

5. Install Skylights

Skylights can provide ventilation as well as natural light in a building. More natural light equals less energy spent on powering up bulbs, meaning more energy is saved and energy cost is reduced.
